Football Pitch Refurbishment

Football Pitch Refurbishment

A two year scheme to improve a football pitch once rated as the worst pitch in South Derbyshire has been completed.

Woodville Parish Council working in partnership with Woodville Rangers Football Club and with the help of a grant from Sport England and section 106 money via South Derbyshire District Council has undertaken pitch improvement works to provide a full size football pitch whilst also levelling other areas of the recreation ground to be used for training, sports activities and mini soccer/youth football.

The project supported by local schools and the scout group received a £50,000 grant from Sport England and £17,190 from the section 106 fund via South Derbyshire District Council towards the total project cost of £112,000. The pitch has been levelled, drained and re seeded. Ball stop fencing has been erected and new goal post sockets installed.

The award from Sport England has been made under the Places People Play Legacy Programme set up following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games for projects that create a lasting sporting legacy for the community.

The Chairman of Woodville Parish Council officially opened the new football pitch on Sunday 24th January 2016 at 10am.
